Phonics

Our Phonics leaders are Mrs Anderson and Mrs Davey. They lead our early reading offer and work very closely with the English team leader, Mrs Day to do this. The English team includes:

Intent

At St Andrew’s our intent for phonics is to ensure all children become confident and enthusiastic readers and writers and can apply the skills learnt to access a wide range of different text types. We aim to produce readers who courageously build on their knowledge of phonics to decode and use new and ambitious vocabulary. 

Each child is nurtured, encouraged and challenged to achieve and exceed their goals where they feel safe to ‘have a go’ using their phonic knowledge in an inclusive environment. We develop a love of reading that gives the foundation to all knowledge and the tools to approach future challenges and to inspire others in the community and beyond.
