Sports News
We receive invitations to attend a variety of different sporting events at the beginning of each term. Some events are organised by the West Essex School Sport Partnership; others are organised and hosted by teachers at our local 'family' of schools. Some events are very competitive and only allow each school to bring one team of players. Therefore, we take children who are talented and confident at the specified sport. These children are identified by teachers and sports coaches during PE lessons. Other events are competitive, yet much more inclusive, and allow schools to bring two or three teams. We ensure that all children attend at least one of these events per year. Finally, we participate in many events that are non-competitive and which are designed for a very specific group of children.
2024-2025
Meet our new sports Captains

Following the success of our after school Tag Rugby club it was too difficult to choose 1 team.....so we took 3!
All 3 teams were phenomenal on the day showing all of the skills they had learned at the club and in their PE lessons.
An additional note from Mr Leverington is to thank all of our parents who, with a last minute change of venue, worked together to ensure the event would go ahead and that all of our children were still able attend! Also, our amazing staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the event on including Mr Dawson, Mrs Dreeling, Mrs Bowman and Mrs Hanks, a huge thank you to you all.
Drawn against a very good Abbotsweld Primary School team the boys knew they would have to put in an excellent performance to reach the next round.
Hosted by Hare Street, the match was played in the true spirit of grassroots football with some sublime skills and amazing teamwork across both schools.
St Andrews took the lead from a penalty converted by Ben C, before he then added a second. Abbotsweld pulled one back before Ernie hit a top corner beauty to ease the St Andrews nerves. It was a tricky start to the second half and Abbotsweld made it 3-2, game on! From there though, the St Andrews team pulled together to score some outstanding goals with Ben securing his hatrick before Ernie and Davis made it 5 and then 6. Final score 6-2! St Andrews march on in the cup and await our next round opposition when the draw is made in the coming week.

Football win!
On Wednesday 23rd of October, our year 3&4 football team put on an incredible display to be crowned WINNERS of the West Essex Schools football competition. With 18 teams and over 185 children in attendance, to walk away winners who were unbeaten all day was a fantastic, yet well-deserved achievement. The team consisting of Ralph R, Ralph H, Joseph N, Maisie B, Logan L from year 4 alongside Frankie T and Sonny D from year 3 were quite simply outstanding on the day. Not just in their football ability and technique but how they behaved, showing sportsmanship and determination in every single game. There were some beautiful team goals, excellent defending and saves-a-plenty from Frankie in goal. A huge well done to all of the children, you displayed all 3 of St Andrews values of Friendship, Courage and Confidence! Mr Leverington, Mr Dawson and Miss McCarthy are incredibly proud of you all, as were your parents and family members who cheered you on all afternoon. This team has a very bright footballing future ahead!

Well done to all of the children and adults for a great morning of sports!

The Year 3/4 Tag Rugby team got off to a flying start of the school year on Friday 20th of September. It was the first competition of the year and the team of Maisie, Penelope, Tara, Logan, Ralph H, Ralph R, Joseph, Jenson and Toby put on an outstanding display at Wanstead Rugby Club.
Playing against schools from across the district, the team finished Runners up in their group, losing 1 and winning 3, scoring more tries than any other team across the 4 games! They were then pitted against the runners up of the opposite group to battle for a Bronze medal. The team put on a fantastic display of defensive and attacking rugby, eventually winning a close game 1-0 to seal the bronze medal. It was a brilliant day in the sunshine but thats not the end of their journey, finishing 3rd out of 22 teams means they will now represent North Weald in the Regional Finals scheduled for Spring 2025.

11th November 2022
On Friday 11th November 2022 St Andrews years 5/6 went on a tag rugby tournament. We had 3 girls and 6 boys. It was 8 aside and we had to have 2 girls on the pitch at all times. There were loads of other teams including: Coopersale, Ivy Chimneys and Epping Upland. Some teams had A and B teams but we only had one team so we had to work extra hard in the games.
Our first game was against the toughest team, Coopersale. We started off OK but we were just rushing passes when we were getting tagged. Our defence was strong but we didn’t run forward enough. They scored first and we scored an equalizer but we got defeated 5-2 in the end. Then we had a one game break then played Epping Upland. We eventually won 2-1. Our defence was really solid with Lucas and Scarlet at the back. After that, we played Ivy chimneys B team and we beat them 7-1 with Des and Harley scoring try after try! Then we played Epping upland B team and we won 7-0 with loads of different people scoring tries including: Scarlet, Harley, Des and me (Brandon).
This next game against Ivy chimneys A team was a really tough game. They went one nil up then I (Brandon) scored two tries to wrap the game up. With our really solid defence, we all thought it was over for them. Then at the last play, they got the ball and scored a try. We were devastated as they made it 2-2 in the last 5 seconds. We all shook hands, praising the other team.
Then we sat down thinking it was finished but then we had a further game to play for 3rd and 4th place versus Ivy Chimneys A team. It was a tough game but we finished with a 2-2 draw.
We came joint 3rd with Ivy Chimneys. Overall, our players were exceptional in their defence, attack and being good sports towards the other teams. A good time was had by all, particularly when we were winning! Hopefully, we’ll do well in the next tag rugby tournament.

The timings were very close among our own competitors but Thomas had the best combined school for our boys and Ruby had the best combined school for the girls.
